Provide academic advising for students in the Chemical Engineering Department and students from other departments pursuing Chemical Engineering Minors.
|
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
|
1. Provide academic advising for students in the chemical engineering department, including current students, students transferring from other universities or programs at Michigan Tech, and prospective students. Advising includes helping with course selection, sequencing, minors, study-abroad, co-ops and internships, Army and ROTC coursework forms, transfer equivalency, and resolving registration and scheduling conflicts. 2. Help students check degree schedules and progress toward graduation using the Degree Audit Report System. 3. Review and approve final degree audits for graduates. 4. Coordinate first year and transfer orientation events regarding advising. 5. Train and work with the Chemical Engineering Peer Mentors. 6. Use multiple software platforms to access student databases, including Banner, BanWeb, Banner Workflow, UAchieve, Webfocus, Q-Menu, ASPIRE, Civitas, Office Suite, and Google Suite. 7. Work with the curriculum committee to coordinate course and curriculum changes (including the curriculum binder) as well as updating/creating advising materials for chemical engineering students, including the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Advising Blog. 8. Assist with departmental course and teaching schedules to help minimize conflicts. 9. Participate in Department, College, and University committees and activities. 10. Use discretion to protect student privacy and confidentiality. 11. Inform the Dean of Students Office about students of concern. 12. Attend regular training/workshops on advising, student retention, software, and safety for continuous improvement. 13. Manage large email communication volume and provide timely replies. 14. Provide compassion and resource options for students with challenges in their academic and personal lives. 15. Attend bi-weekly departmental meetings. 16. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives. 17. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. 18. Other duties as assigned.

Desirable Education and/or Experience
|
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in chemical engineering or other technical fields
- Experience using databases/programs such as Banner, Banweb, Webfocus, Workflow, and/or Aspire.
