JOB TITLE:  Quality Systems Manager                               

PLANT/DEPARTMENT:   Quality                DIRECTED BY:  General Manager

IMPORTANT WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:    External customers and suppliers, Third Party and customer auditors, Defense Contracts Management Agency, Quality Team, Manufacturing, Program Management, Purchasing, Engineering, Sales, ISO Auditors

DIRECTS:  Quality Team in all HEG Locations (including Plant Quality Leaders, NDT personnel, Quality Technicians, Inspectors)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  Build and maintain a strong team to ensure compliance with quality requirements and provide actionable information to the business to enable functional managers to prioritize and drive improved quality performance.  Lead and improve the quality function in close cooperation with customers and company management team to ensure optimum quality, product reliability and economical costs.  Ensure customer-imposed quality requirements and governing body requirements are understood and followed. Maintain a rapid issue resolution process in cooperation with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing.

MAJOR DUTIES:
  1. Provide leadership to the Quality team, including effective hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure the team is aligned to the company’s goals and expectations.
  2. Devise, organize and implement quality assurance and control programs, quality standards, inspection techniques, monitoring schedules, actionable metrics, and preventive measures.
  3. Responsible for establishing strategic quality plans and procedures at all levels so quality improvement efforts will meet or exceed internal and external customers’ needs and expectations.
  4. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
  5. Perform and report on internal or external quality system audits.
  6. Ensure calibration program is in conformance with established standards.
  7. Responsible for customer, supplier or performance issues and contacting vendors or customers regarding dissatisfaction or complaints arising from inferior quality.
  8. Assess potential new suppliers along with supplier quality development.
  9. Report on the performance of the quality management system.  Including, but not limited to, controlling the acceptance of materials, production accuracy, end product quality and opportunities for improvement.
  10. Investigate quality system failures and identify solutions.
  11. Identify unique contract quality requirements and assure they are flowed down to manufacturing.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION PREFERRED/SPECIAL NOTES:
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 and the maintenance of such processes
  • Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing Training

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED/SPECIAL NOTES
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills in leading direct reports and cross-functional teams
  • Strong technical  background with Quality standards and systems.
  • Ability to write precise technical reports and work instructions and procedures in accordance with Quality standard requirements. 
  • 5 years of experience in Lean Manufacturing/Quality environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   
  • Travel to HEG factories, customers and suppliers
  • Extended periods of standing on the shop floor
