Job Description

The Advanced Engineering Lab (AEL) at Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) focuses on advanced technology research and development for world-class vehicles, and currently is looking for a seasoned and motivated engineering Manager to lead our body Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) team. This Manager for Body CAE is responsible for leading a diverse and growing team of engineers for the development of upcoming Hyundai, KIA and Genesis vehicles and technologies related to performance in durability, stiffness, strength & NVH analysis for BIW and closures.

A successful candidate should have a wide breadth of automotive experience and will lead the CAE projects of different vehicles to meet or exceed our requirements from concept development through life-cycle production while simultaneously developing new technologies and adhering to the highest performance standards. Additional responsibilities include resource estimation for short-, mid-, and long-term planning and budget management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Team Management:
    • Successfully meet your team's KPI's including Program Timing, Cost & Quality Improvement, Intellectual Property, Budget, Personnel Development, Corporate Culture, etc.
    • Develop goals and objectives for all direct reports. Assign tasks and projects to support the related team's work plan, ensuring all goals are met.
    • Manage and direct Body CAE Engineers in daily activities for work projects relating to team activities in support of our three brands: Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.
    • Ensure team deliverables are met.
  • Vehicle Development:
    • Be a subject matter expert in relation to structure CAE (Stiffness, Strength, Fatigue, NVH, Optimization).
    • Ensure CAE cycle is followed from concept to post-production, satisfying all Body CAE requirements.
    • Conduct competitive benchmarking, perform CAE analysis, prepare CAE technical reports, meet durability and NVH targets, etc.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
    • Advocate for internal and external customers.
    • Collaborate with regional affiliates: Manufacturing, Design, Testing, Materials team as well as corporate headquarters CAE teams in Korea.
    • Actively engaging with all levels from Engineers to Manager, to executives, building effective relationships with all.
    • Regularly create and present summaries of key activities and future plans to upper management teams. Review progress to work plan and quality of work. Provide technical direction and guidance.
  • Technology Assessment and Development:
    • Support development of technical road maps and strategies with the goal of implementation.
    • Provide vision and guidance to new technology research and projects.
  • Budgeting and Resource Allocation:
    • Support development of Body CAE team budget.
    • Monitor and approve expenses, identify savings opportunities, and make project/strategic investment decisions to support all R&D activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 10% of time domestically and internationally.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree or PHD.
  • Overall 10+ years of OEM automotive Body CAE experience with project and team management.
  • Expert in resolving structure performance issues related to Body CAE durability, and body development and design issues.
  • Experience in test to CAE correlation.
  • Experience in root cause analysis & corrective action plans of Body CAE.
  • Significant experience and expertise in automotive areas of body-in-white structure & closures
  • Experience in vehicle structure CAE NVH.
  • Expert in oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient time management and organization skills.
  • Expert in project management skills.
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Skills/Experiences:

  • Expert in relation to structure CAE in Stiffness, Strength, Fatigue, NVH, and Optimization.
  • Experience in using HyperWorks, Ansa, Abaqus, FE-safe, Nastran and any MDO optimization tool.
  • Battery CAE experience.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary design optimization for structure.
  • 5+ years of mentoring/leading/managing other engineers.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Vehicle Structure CAE Durability.
