Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for charge capture process and revenue integrity of professional charges, including but not limited to, abstracting data from medical records, coding diagnoses and procedures, along with educating providers and staff, while maintaining work queue goals and is a resource to help maintain patient relations.

Essential Functions

  • Communicates, collaborates and acts as a consultant to educate providers, office staff, management, sharing coding/billing updates. Acts as a liaison between the practice site, coding management, education and professional billing office.
  • Trains and monitors front office staff's technical competencies of all front office functions from registration through check out to ensure accurate billing. Trains new and existing staff and shares coding and billing changes with providers and staff.
  • Reviews and analyzes audit reports and follows up to make certain that charges are entered in an appropriate and timely manner and payments are collected as anticipated.
  • Reviews encounter forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Acts as a resource to provider and office staff regarding coding and documentation process and policy.
  • Works with office staff to maximize collections at time of service.
  • Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.

Qualifications
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

Certifications, one of the following upon hire:

  • CRT-Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association
  • CRT-Professional Coder - AAPC American Academy of Professional Coders
  • CRT-Outpatient Coder, Certified (COC)
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AAPC American Academy of Professional Coders
  • CRT-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA American Health Information Management Association
