Role Description

The Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research & Development (VMRD) Vendor & Contract Management (VCM) team is seeking an experienced Procurement Category Sourcing Manager (CSM) to support laboratory model procurement across multiple U.S. R&D sites. The CSM will guide the selection, development, and management of suppliers to meet operational requirements, project costs and performance goals. This role will negotiate business terms of contractual agreements to ensure that service, quality, and total costs are secured as well as provide category oversight seeking reduction to costs and overall performance improvements. This role will also work closely with colleagues across multiple workstreams to ensure all supply needs are met, identify risks, and develop strategies to mitigate risks in order to make certain the supply chain is uninterrupted. The position is part of the VCM team consisting of Procurement Associates, Category Sourcing Managers, & Contract Managers. It will report into a Category Sourcing Manager.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide laboratory model procurement services
  • Manage day-to-day interactions with suppliers and transportation companies
  • Collaborate across multiple workstreams to analyze and forecast supply demand, build long term vendor strategies to ensure project execution
  • Work in partnership with various workstreams to ensure facility availability, supply requirements are accurately identified and ordered accordingly
  • Manage the category suppliers to ensure competitive costs, business continuity, and operations are handled in accordance with proper policy & pertinent regulations
  • Request and review purchase orders (POs) and provide direction to Procurement Associates to ensure POs are executed accurately
  • Manage supplier and transportation company approvals in database including maintenance of the preferred supplier list
  • Lead new supplier identification, qualification, and selection process
  • Work diligently to resolve issues raised by internal or external customers
  • Organize supplier visits, initial supplier discussions, and prepare supplier visit reports

Qualification and Experience:

  • 2-5 Years of Buyer/Sourcing experience, preferably in R&D, animal models or pharma/biopharma
  • Bachelor's degree in science, Procurement, or similar business discipline
  • Experience in negotiating with suppliers including large contractual agreements, pricing, payment terms, issue resolution, etc.
  • Experience and ability in data analysis to support decision-making and identify actions
  • Project Management, stakeholder management and influencing skills are required
  • Maintain uncompromising focus on high quality standards, cost reduction and speed for projects
  • Experience in supplier performance and relationship management (methods, tools, practice)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal interactions skills
  • Can handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to visualize larger picture while working on detailed approaches to a targeted conclusion
  • Excellent in prioritization of various tasks with high level of self-motivation and 'will-do' attitude
  • Respecting diversity and uniqueness while treasuring equity & inclusion
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight in complex environment
  • Skilled in computer systems such as SAP, Ariba, etc.
  • Understanding & ability to navigate Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process (i.e., POs & invoices)
  • Leadership, willingness to speak up, and an ability to work independently and cooperatively within an aligned team is critical for this position
  • Demonstrate organizational, problem solving, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact and interface with a broad range of individuals of varied disciplines and cultures, both external and internal, is essential
  • Strong ability and willingness to be flexible and adaptable to work in a complex, global environment cross-functionally and build relationships
  • Strong sense of customer service and willingness to work with fellow colleagues to obtain the best outcomes for the company
