SEMCO - Lead Reliability Engineer

As a Lead Engineer, you will be responsible leading reliability assessments, performing root cause analysis, training employees including operations and engineering personnel, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of asset management processes, performing failure mode effects analysis, and supporting project management practices in investments in SEMCO's transmission, distribution, storage and compression projects. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess and manage reliability, optimize maintenance strategies for gas handling assets, and focus on the long-term safety and reliability of SEMCO's infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical: Based on experience, research, problem solving, including leading testing to provide technical recommendations and corrective actions to improve reliability and performance of engines, compressors, ancillary system, and regulation stations. Support rate case testimony and witnesses with technical expertise and industry knowledge. Asset Management: Develop and implement comprehensive station asset reliability and maintenance (proactive, routine, predictive, preventative) programs, policies, and procedures to ensure the safe and reliable operation of company assets focusing on station assets. Lead life cycle asset plans including justification and development of replacement projects. Risk Assessment: Oversee programs and personnel conducting risk assessments and integrity analyses of critical assets, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending mitigation strategies. Root Cause Analysis: Perform and lead root cause analysis using data analysis, investigation, technical expertise in gas infrastructure, and where applicable design of experiments utilization to develop learnings and corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence of failures, near misses, etc. Inspection and Testing: Coordinate and oversee inspection and testing activities to assess the condition of assets and identify defects or potential failures. Reporting: Create, oversee, and/or support of personnel preparing and presenting regular reports on asset management, project schedules, reporting to regulatory agencies including Michigan Public Service Commission, MDOT, EPA, and other government agencies regulating gas utility industry. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and safety teams to ensure a holistic approach to asset management for station equipment, including engines, compressors, pressure regulators, heaters, equipment monitoring systems, controls system, ancillary systems, etc. Training and Education: Provide training and support to personnel involved in asset management activities, promoting a culture of safety, reliability, and the effective use root cause analysis and failure mode effects analyses.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • 10 years of experience implementing, designing or accountable for asset management or related system management (Reliability Based Program Management, Risk Programs, or Quality Program Management, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, etc.)

  • 5 years of Project Management experience (PMP certification preferred)

  • 5 years of Experience in operation, maintenance, installation of Gas Engine, Compression Equipment, Gas Regulation equipment.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., API, ASME, NACE, MDOT).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to lead cross functional teams of employees in root cause analysis, developing preventative or predictive maintenance plans and schedules, risk prioritization efforts, implementing projects, or other company objectives.

In addition to our standard benefits package, the estimated base salary for this role will range from $103,500 - $120,000, depending upon experience.
