Job Summary:

The Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for facilitating and ensuring compliance with company rules, policies, and practices, regulatory agencies, permits and other applicable laws and standards. He/she will engage leaders and employees in a way that improves plant performance by promoting a Safety First culture, reducing the risk of safety incidents through education, training, and sound work practices, and providing tools and systems that deliver improved safety performance.

This position is also responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all aspects of facility environmental compliance and security programs.

He/she will also champion and/or lead projects that will drive improvement in key EHS and facility security performance indicators (KPIs).

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

* Champion a Safety First culture

o Lead and support plant certification and audit activities associated with 14001 and 45000 certifications.

o Evaluate site hazards and safety, security, and environmental compliance through internal audits and risk assessments to develop and implement improvements to achieve best-practice standards.

o Develop internal policies and programs to ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal policies and regulations relating to safety, security, and environmental matters.

o Provide leadership and coaching to Supervisors with various safety, security, and environmental related initiatives.

o Evaluate processes and equipment modifications for safety, security, and environmental performance.

o Tracks and monitors Key Safety, Security, and Environmental Performance Indicators and analyzes results to establish goals and recommendations for new approaches to effect continual improvements and mitigate risks.

o Lead and Implement the Bel Groupe and Traverse City Plant Safety Road Map at the local site level while also collaborating to define, communicate and implement best practices across all Bel Groupe North American sites.

o Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with safe workplace programs, policies and procedures that enhance incident prevention and compliance with company, local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

o Conduct and participate in audits of other sites as needed.

o Interface directly and appropriately with all regulatory agencies.

o Conduct or coordinate effective training for all employees in areas such as safe-workplace policies, practices, laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment.

o Own the process for ensuring effective safety training for all new hires and on an ongoing basis in alignment with position specific and regulatory requirements.

o Investigate industrial accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures.

o Prepare and submit reports, including but not limited to incident flash reports, monthly reports, and finding reports from incident investigations or facility inspections.

o Inspect facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and to ensure regulatory compliance.

o Assess ergonomic conditions and environment to reduce incidence of musculoskeletal conditions.

o Review plans and specifications for construction or installation of new equipment to ensure that all safe workplace requirements have been met.

o Support operational ownership of workplace safety through training and support of behavioral based safety observations (Safety Dialogs), incident investigations, and other company initiatives.

o Collaborate with Human Resources and Plant Leadership to diligently manage Workers' Compensation claims to ensure appropriate employee care and to facilitate timely claim closure.

o Collaborate with Human Resources, Plant Leadership, and Supervision within the applicable work area and shift in all situations involving modified work duty, work restrictions, or accommodation.

* Environmental

o Review and report findings from incident investigations, facility inspections or environmental testing.

o Storm Water, Air Permitting and Hazardous Waste Shipping

o Monitor all potential pollutants and contaminants to air, water, or ground.

o Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and permits.

o Serve as the primary point of contact to regulatory agencies and other interested parties.

o Collaborate with site leaders to ensure coordination of work activities and required sampling.

o Prepare and submit reports as needed.

o Provide training related to regulations, permits and safety associated with these topics.

o Waste and Recyclables Removal

o Manages the contracts with contracted firms.

o Collaborates with site leaders to ensure effective and efficient processes for waste and recyclables collection, staging, and removal.

* Facilities

o Security

o Audit the facility and site for compliance with company and SQF security standards.

o Lead efforts to ensure security measures and programs are current and well defined. Update SOPs and procedure documents as necessary.

o Provide training to workforce and contracted security providers to ensure security practices are understood consistently applied.

o Fire Systems

o Manage the contracts for contracted firms performing work on the fire suppression and alarm systems.

o Ensure compliance with regulatory codes and standards.

o Serve as the primary point of contact for all interested parties relative to fire systems.

o Collaborate with site leaders to ensure coordination of work activities on these systems.

* All additional duties as assigned.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Safety Incident Rate, Permit and Regulatory Compliance Measures, Internal Audit Scores, Behavior Based Safety Observations (Safety Dialogs) Completion, Bel Groupe Tennaxia reporting indicators.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

* Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE

* 3+ years related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

SKILLS

* Ability to anticipate risk and implement safety measures proactively.

* Demonstrated understanding of local, Federal, and State regulations, such as OSHA and EPA

* Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment.

o Strong presentation and writing skills are highly preferred.

* Strong collaboration, communication, training and coaching skills.

* Ability to influence behavioral change.

* Knowledge of Workers' Compensation processes and practices.

* Ability to be self-directed and take full ownership for work responsibilities with limited oversight.

* Training as a first-responder or EMT/paramedic is not required but preferred.

* Industry certifications are not required, but strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able lift up to 40 lbs.

* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

* Must be able work in normal office conditions and in the manufacturing plant.

* Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day and be on his/her feet for extended periods of time.

* Must be able to work on any shift as needed

* Must be able to travel via airplane within the U.S. and Internationally
