Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Assist patients, physicians, customers and caregivers in an accurate, organized manner. Serves as the initial contact with patients arriving for Imaging Services.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Scheduling
    • Schedule MRI's for all in-patient appointments at Sparrow campus in the iSparrow (EPIC) system.
    • Obtain pertinent medical documentation for MRI screening to ensure the safety of the patient.
    • Coordinate time and day with nurse caring for the patient. Review any special instructions with the nurse prior to patient coming to the department for MRI.
    • When study requires anesthesia, coordinate with the surgery board runner or directly interact with Anesthesiologist for scheduling availability.
  • Register Patients
    • Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT code/IMG code for registration and billing compliance purposes at the point of registration and patient check-in.
    • Greet patient, accurately interview and register all Imaging outpatients into the iSparrow (EPIC) system.
    • Input and update all pertinent patient demographics and insurance information.
    • Monitor EPIC registration work queues and make appropriate corrections to assure accurate billing.
  • Respond to inquiries concerning the activities and operation of department by referring to established policies and procedures.
  • Answer all incoming phone calls.
  • Prepare CDs from PACS for referring physicians and patient pick up.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Radiologists to streamline workflow in an electronic environment that facilitates rapid turnaround of interpretation results.
  • Fix patient files in PACS System (demographics with correct images).
  • Call radiology preliminary results and critical findings to ED, Critical Care and Nursing Units and referring physicians.
  • Assist with the completion of studies on the Incomplete Worklist, by checking in patient's study, correcting demographic errors and coordinating physician interpretation of study.
  • May be required to rotate to Ultrasound, Okemos, Sparrow Health Center Lansing and Mammography as assigned for relief during vacations, sick calls, etc.

Work Experience * Knowledge of medical terminology as would normally be obtained through successful completion of a medical terminology course.
Education * High School Diploma or GED
Specialized Knowledge and Skills * Adept with customer service. * Ability to work at multiple locations. * Effective communication skills to interact with diverse populations. * Ability to perform duties in stressful situations. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard, typing a minimum of 45 words per minute to perform the essential duties of the job. * Previous experience working in a healthcare environment.
