Job Description

Job Summary:

The Investment Accountant III is responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting functions related to investment portfolios, with a focus on ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the investing activity in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) or other basis as deemed applicable.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage all monthly investment reporting, reconciliation and journal entry functions, including reviewing Clearwater reporting for accuracy
  • Research appropriate accounting for new investments, including alternatives
  • Lead implementation of new accounting pronouncements related to investments
  • Prepare all relevant financial disclosures and investment schedules for quarterly statutory reporting and annual audited financial statements
  • Evaluate and make appropriate recommendations on internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization
  • Act as liaison between the Investment team within the Treasury department and the Corporate and Health Plan Accounting teams
  • Execute all necessary and identify need for internal controls for related entities consistent with Model Audit Rule (MAR) requirements
  • Prepare ad-hoc requests for information, schedules and analysis as required
  • Support internal and external audit activities
  • Perform any other job duties as requested

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree in accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent years of relevant experience, is required
  • Post-graduate degree is preferred and provides credit for one (1) year of related experience
  • Four (4) years of related experience in accounting/finance required, with at least one (1) year experience specific to investment accounting
  • Managed care or healthcare experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in a large ERP system is preferred

Competencies, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiar with a variety of accounting concepts, practices and procedures
  • In depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT)
  • Demonstrates decision making and analytical/problem solving skills to perform a variety of complicated tasks
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in use of Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of Clearwater Analytics a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including judgment/decision making, and the ability to work effectively with others at all levels
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently

Licensure and Certification:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other equivalent certification is preferred and provides credit for one (1) year of related experience

Working Conditions:

  • General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • May be required to travel occasionally

Compensation Range:
$69,400.00 - $111,000.00 CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate's education, training, and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level.
