Position Overview

This role is a key team member within the Innovation team, exploring new and alternate technologies to complete feasibility go/no-go milestones. The candidate is curious to explore disruptive concepts and approaches, establish performance targets and requirements, and evaluate results toward achieving feasibility goals. An ideal candidate has a training/education or strong background in mechanical engineering and material science. Communication skills presenting and reviewing must be team focused and aligned with our company core values. This is a unique opportunity to generate technology that improves vehicle related safety solutions for existing and emerging motor vehicle platforms.

Essential Job Functions

Demonstrates SoundOff Signal's Core Values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.

Generating new and innovative design solutions for lighting, control and other new products.

Perform and document benchmarking, ideation, and concept generation.

Develops conceptual and detailed product/system specifications by analyzing performance, customer and regulatory requirements.

Perform Engineering design and analysis including: CAD modeling, tolerance stack ups, FEA, thermal management, plastic and metal mold/fabrication properties, DFMEA/PFMEA, DFM/DFA.

Problem solving in material compatibility in regards to properties and structures of different substances including plastics, metals, chemicals and nanomaterials.

New product and VAVE design responsibility for fit, form, function, and validation of integral system components, including cost analysis and feasibility.

Coordinating prototyping, assembly, testing and validation of products through internal and external testing facilities.

Provide technical information for review using established engineering practices, standards and documentation methods. Provides supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports.

Research new technologies, new materials, and new designs.

Develop concepts, drawings, illustrations, charts, estimates, or other documentation as required.

Strong collaboration skills with internal and external resources.

Provide leadership in problem solving and act as a subject matter expert.

Travel as needed to industry partners or industry events representing SoundOff Signal.

Able to read and follow SoundOff Signal Work Instructions.

Job Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

10+ years in Product/Design Engineering with broad experience in materials including plastics, metals, thermal materials, etc. Vehicle based products preferred.

Practical/hands-on experience designing complex opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.

Strong problem-solving abilities.

Mastery of development and analytical software packages - Mechanical/Test as required (Solidworks, FEA, LabView, etc.)

Materials engineering background

Effective communication with team, other departments, customers, and suppliers.

Computer skills - Windows Office Suite

Manufacturing Processes (Lean training a plus)

Technical training, i.e., SAE, FMVSS, vehicle specifications, DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.

Tool design, metal fabrication, electronic assembly, PCBA design and manufacturing.

Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing many projects simultaneously.

Ability to search, read, interpret, contribute, understand and gain insights from patent documents a plus.

Physical/Mental/Sensory Requirements

Able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Able to stand and sit for various length of time.

Able to bend/twist and reach.

Working Conditions

Mostly office environment including:

- Light Manufacturing Environment

- Little to Medium noise level

- Moderate temperature ranges

- Prototype fabrication, tools and machines
