Job Description

Position Summary: The Day Camp Bus Driver is responsible for driving the SAL Bus with day campers, to and from field trips daily.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving The SAL bus to and from field trips daily
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the bus daily, by keeping it clean and making sure the bus is filled with gas and ready each day for field trips, as well as checking oil, water and transmission fluid weekly.
  • Responsible, along with the Day camp Counselors, on the bus for the safety of all passengers.
  • Being aware of problems or issues with the bus that may need fixing and immediately communicating this to the Community Center Director.
  • Work with Lead Counselor and take on the role of an additional counselor at the destination, once bus has been parked and properly secured.
  • Willingness to participate and take a leadership role in all planned activities such as Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, and music and more.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have an excellent driving record
  • Must have a valid CDL license with passenger endorsement

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma / GED preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Previous experience working with youth

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of buses and how they function

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Have and maintain a current valid commercial driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
