EHS Co-Op

Job Description Summary

As an EHS Co-Op you will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and sustainment of EHS programs to ensure the safety of all associates, visitors and contractors; protect the environment, and maintain compliance with all global and local regulations. This position works closely with all departments to ensure EH&S is a team effort. This position reports directly to the EHS Manager.

Job Description

* Participate in the weekly Global EHS call every Monday morning

* Conduct tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil by performing the following duties

* Assist in directing plant safety team

* Make studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies

* Assist in formulating general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company or plant personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations

* Assists in inspection/auditing of facility and work areas to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards; recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated

* Prepare and arrange safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences and exhibitions

* Update monthly compliance calendar

* Monitor and report on Environmental issues

* Assist in filing reports to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, EPA and other governmental agencies

* Ensure continual improvement with environmental projects

* Demonstrate ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions utilizing information interpreted from a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and take care of several abstract and concrete variables at a time

* Assist the plant in maintaining S4 status through the 11 Elements of our corporate EH&S System

* All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA.

  • Job hours: 25 a week.
