IFF has an exciting opportunity for an R&D Director Analytical Sciences to be located in Midland, Michigan, Wilmington, DE, or Bomlitz, Germany. This role is to lead the Polymer Characterization team of the Pharma Solutions business unit of International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF).The Polymer Characterization team supports research and production on existing and new pharmaceutical excipients.This Polymer Characterization team provides analytical technical expertise, ensures compliance with regulations, and improves analytical system performance and reliability. We are looking for a Leader with an Analytical chemistry background, who can lead a global team of Analytical Chemists and Analytical Labs. The Leader would be the focal point for all requests for analytical support and manage resource assignments.The Polymer Characterization labs use a variety of analytical techniques such as wet chemical analysis, viscosity, HPLC, IC, GC, GPC, FTIR, NMR and XRF, so general analytical knowledge and/or expertise in one of these fields would be beneficial.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • People leadership for a team focused on method development and research and manufacturing support.
  • Understand the regulatory testing requirements for the Pharma Solutions product portfolio and ensure that production QC labs are meeting them.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in relation to complex analytical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Lead the development, validation, qualification, and documentation of analytical methods.
  • Lead global teams to solve problems and make improvements.
  • Drive global technology transfer and compliance of analytical methodology to external regulations.
  • Interface across all functions e.g. product and process development, applications and quality to help ensure product specifications are consistent with analytical and production capability.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry (or a related field) with 10 years' experience in analytical chemistry is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytical techniques, capabilities, and statistics are required.
  • Experience with project leadership and people leadership.
  • Excellent documentation (written), oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and multi-task in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment.
  • Preferred experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
