SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

This position reports directly to the Grand Rapids Plant Manager with functional guidance provided by the Coating Solutions Regional HSE Teams. The Coating Solutions Regional Occupational Safety Leader is the back up for this position.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Responsible for providing health, environmental and safety support to the Arkema CS Grand Rapids Plant and ensuring compliance, improved performance and enhanced awareness in the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) program for the site. Conducts compliance gap analysis and assessments, develops implementation plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards; and implements HSE management systems and work processes.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Safety and Environmental Leadership - 30%

  • Leads efforts to improve HSE performance by eliminating injuries, exposures, spills, and emission
  • Consults with corporate HSE group to obtain clear interpretations of site-specific regulatory process, regulations, laws and associated procedures.
  • Recognizes and analyzes HSE risks present in the work environment and assists the team in the development of programs, procedures and/or processes to mitigate those risks.
  • Participates and/or leads incident investigations and corrective action processes.
  • Facilitates the Behavior Based Safety and THA (Task Hazard Analysis) program in accordance with corporate requirements.
  • Develops, coordinates and executes all HSE training programs.
  • Maintains training necessary to act as 2nd in command for incident commander responsibility.
  • Acts as liaison between the Business Unit, Arkema Inc., and site HSE network.

Management Systems - 25%

  • Lead the following systems by fulfilling the following roles: ISO 45001 Coordinator, Emergency Response Coordinator
  • Is the primary coordinator who will facilitate and support the occupational health and Industrial Hygiene control system.
  • Participates in and provides data for HSE audits.
  • Monthly safety reporting on Atlas and Sustainability reports.
  • Maintain plant SDS electronic database
  • Participates on PSSR's, PHA's, and project executions

Regulatory compliance Activities - 20%

  • Ensures compliance with HSE requirements and effective implementation of the various HSE management systems, work processes and data management systems.
  • Utilizes the MOC process to effectively deliver the regulatory guidance, required documentation, and training to the appropriate groups.
  • Maintains reporting of chemical inventory, emission (air-water-waste) metrics and other HSE data to both regulatory agencies and Corporate Arkema.
  • Maintains all safety and environmental records.
  • Interacts with government agencies and ensures permits and license are up to date.
  • Coordinates Industrial Hygiene activities for the plant, including personnel exposure monitoring, and maintain Job Demand Forms and PPE assessment documentation.

Waste Management - 20%

  • Manages environmental documentation for waste characterizations, waste disposal, fugitive emissions, RCRA, etc.
  • Coordination of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  • Participates on site team for Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program.

Other Activities - 5%

  • Participates in community outreach or Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
  • Coordinates inventory and procurement of safety supplies, and liaisons with supplier of flame-retardant clothing

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. Degree in relevant field of study (e.g. engineering, chemistry, occupational health & safety or similar)
  • A working knowledge of HSE regulations; Occupational Safety& Health, Process Safety Management; Environmental Regulations (particularly RCRA), Emergency Response and other relevant requirements.
  • 1-3 Years of experience in a Manufacturing Industry or Environment

DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES (DESCRIBE BEHAVIORS NECESSARY FOR ROLE)

  • Solid communication and organization skills required.
  • Capable of working in all operational, maintenance and/or utility areas of a chemical manufacturing facility
  • Work knowledge of Federal Rules for Occupational Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop / improve their own leadership skill sets.
  • Ability to develop / improve leadership skill sets in others.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and focus on detail.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and organize daily work schedule.
