Join an organization that enriches the lives of the communities it serves! Meijer is looking for engaged Store Manager to lead our Team Members, Support our Community and Customers for our Urban Market Rivertown Store located in Jefferson Ave - Detroit, MI

The Store Manager will play a critical function in launching Meijer's new urban format store. This position requires a highly dynamic leader assisting in the development of this format and ensuring a successful startup. While leading the team in a manner that simultaneously drives team member engagement and exceptional business results, the store manager will maintain strong connections with the corporate staff to continuously pursue ways to improve this new operating model. A strong connection with the community and focus on leading a highly engaged team will be essential responsibilities.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Creating a store environment to maximize customer satisfaction in a selling atmosphere.
  • Driving key metrics for store including sales, margin, inventory, controllable costs, net profit, customer satisfaction and safety.
  • Recruits/develops/retains and grows talent at every level; promotes succession planning by providing career paths and identifying development needs. Identify high potentials and actively mentor them for development through performance and skill based programs.
  • Anticipate, identify and address people needs including staffing, development, performance, retention and succession planning.
  • Creates a community connection through involvement with community leaders, organizations and events to support the neighborhoods / customers we serve. Develops store to be part of the Community with products, events, community relationships, team member involvement.
  • Set clear expectations towards standards and expectations for daily and hourly store conditions.
  • Keeps current on competitive trends; investigates and analyzes strengths and weaknesses of direct competitors to create / leverage all possible advantages
  • Ensure freshness of product by closely monitoring execution to rotation and dating policy.
  • Schedule and organize the team to meet operational demands and drive team member engagement.
  • Plan and conduct daily meetings with store personnel, administers safety and team member engagement programs.
  • Maintains open communication and close working relationships with merchandising and other corporate partners to continuously identify and deliver improvements to the urban store operating model.
  • Maintains store regulatory compliance including but not limited to: alcohol, tobacco, firearms, WIC, product safety, food safety, team member and customer safety, AML, and environmental hazards
  • Spends majority of time on sales floor communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered

What You Bring with You (Qualification):

  • Bachelor degree in Business or related area or commensurate retail experience
  • 4 -5 years of retail/grocery experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Experience with a retail urban format model to assist in the development and implementation of a successful operation.
  • Knowledgeable and current in policies, practices and trends affecting the retail business. Knows the competition and is aware of how strategies and tactics work in the marketplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively sort through and handle competing priorities. Highly developed organizational skills and ability to multi-task while simultaneously attending to detail.
  • Proven leadership skills reflecting the ability to successfully lead a highly motivated and engaged team to deliver a customer focused environment and deliver exceptional business results.
  • Capability of teaching and motivating others in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to make ethical and appropriate decisions in unique situations and/or under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict as well as lead through influence.
  • Demonstrated success in solving complex issues across functions using fact-based data and analytics as well as experience and judgment. Can get to the root cause for resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate even complex information with clarity, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of audiences from senior leadership to team members. Provides appropriate and timely information to key stakeholders and training and information to team members to do their jobs effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all areas of the business.
  • Demonstrates good decision quality and makes decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required licenses
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) as well as other communication technology.
