SUMMARY

This teacher will be the primary teacher responsible for Cybersecurity and Information Technology (and thus should be skilled, comfortable, and appropriately certified to teach in that area) and will also teach other Business classes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certification and Experience:

  • Required - Bachelor's degree or higher in Education and/or Finance, Business, or similar field.
  • Required - Valid Michigan CTE certificate in CIP 11.1003 Information Assurance OR eligible for Annual CTE Authorization (ACA) = Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4,000 hours of recent and relevant experience (within the past ten years).
  • Preferred - Current valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Preferred - Experience with Schoology (learning management system)
  • Preferred - Experience working with high school students
  • Preferred - Experience with CyberPatriot
  • Preferred - Interest/skills in Information Technology (IT) such as programing/coding/gaming; cybersecurity; network administration; or other.

Skills and Expertise:

  • Possess a strong working knowledge of subject matter and current research on learning.
  • Highly skillful in developing stimulating lessons, utilizing a variety of learning strategies and assessments that incorporate work-based learning (WBL) experiences.
  • Demonstrate appropriate teaching strategies for all students.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of adolescent developmental patterns.
  • Exhibit self-control, mature judgment, congeniality, and ethical standards in all working relationships.
  • Must engage collaboratively with Business/Finance/Marketing colleagues to effectively deliver and continuously improve and maintain the most effective program of study for CIP 11.1003 or other CIP qualified to teach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written communications, and ability to collaborate with all stakeholders, particularly business/industry program partners.
  • Comfortable and competent in using basic technology tools effectively such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Smart Board, and other district technology tools/applications. Commitment to learning and maintaining proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as primary teacher for Cybersecurity and Information Technology. Teach other courses in Business and/or other areas for which qualified.
  • Must comply with all activities and evidence documentation required by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE), for state-approved programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
    1. Annually update TRAC/CIP Self-Review in GEMS, meeting district, county & state guidelines/timelines. All evidence documents must be current, compliant and complete.
    2. Assist with two (minimum) program advisory committee meetings each year and required documentation.
    3. Provide career technical student organization (CTSO) leadership opportunities (or approved equivalent experiences) for all students w/appropriate documentation.
    4. Ensure that program-specific work-based learning (WBL) and safety training is provided and documented for every student, and actively work to increase quality WBL business/industry program partners.
    5. Collaborate with team members on updating the Gap Analysis, curriculum and lesson development, (including academic integration), and work with your counterpart(s) at our other high school to ensure such curriculum and lesson development is in alignment at both high schools. Document the program delivery model accordingly.
    6. Maintain current, valid CTE teacher certification and other applicable licensure.
    7. Collaborate with CTE administrative team and postsecondary representatives regarding articulation and program of study (POS).

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assess and measure student growth following district and school guidelines.
  • Adhere to all district procedures and policies, especially those for classroom management and safety.
  • Provide oversight for CTE classroom teaching materials, equipment, software and facility, and maintain updated inventory and documentation of the same.
  • Participate in budgeting and tracking/self-monitoring of CTE expenditures for your program.
  • Support and participate in CTE program promotional activities, recruitment events, data collection, and efforts to track success of program completers.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional growth and improvement. CIP-specific PD required annually.
  • Foster positive relationships with business/industry professionals and postsecondary representatives who serve as advisors and be proactive in outreach efforts to engage new, potential program partners.
