Job Description
The Hybrid On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Controls Engineer will join a growing team at FCA US Headquarters and Technology Center and work closely with their counterparts at Chelsea Proving Grounds (CPG) to further develop technology for the FCA Powertrain team. They work in multi-disciplinary Centers of Excellence (CoE) who are responsible for delivering embedded software for the electrified ECU families. The successful candidate will work with application lifecycle tools and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test equipment; and develop, update and maintain process and procedure documents.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Write and execute component level diagnostic algorithm test plans
  • Write and execute system level OBD regulatory (1968.2, J1979, etc.) test plans
  • Gather, document and submit new requirements from regulatory and calibration teams ensuring diagnostic requirement changes are submitted and implemented
  • Modify or create electrified Powertrain (ePT) OBD algorithms
  • Provide status on change to ePT OBD leader, a COE leader, and Project Management Coordinators (PMC)
  • Participate in ePT OBD software issue investigations and support FMEA development for new diagnostic strategies with systems engineers
  • Create and update diagnostic tool documentation
  • Track and ensure OBD requirements changes are implemented in a timely manner
  • Back-up to lead ePT OBD tools engineer

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or graduate degree relevant to Engineering (I.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics/Mathematics, or other suitable degree related to engineering from a university)
  • Minimum 1 year of powertrain controls, OBD, or powertrain systems experience
  • Test plan writing and/or execution experience
  • MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow experience
  • Familiarity with microprocessor-based controls and development tools (emulators, debuggers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with software development process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Good project coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics/Mathematics, or other suitable degree related to engineering from a university
  • Experience or exposure to CARB 1968.2 regulation
  • Experience testing powertrain controls
  • Familiarity with On-Board Diagnostics
  • Powertrain software experience
  • Experience with AutoSAR and/or dSpace System Desk
  • Experience with hard real-time embedded applications
  • Automotive experience either at work or university, such as Formula SAE, SAE EcoCar, or other university automotive activity
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong project coordination skills
  • Flexibility; must be able to adapt to changing environment with minimal effect on productivity
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of management
