Behavioral Neurologist

Henry Ford Medical Group’s Department of Neurology is seeking a board eligible/certified neurologist with fellowship training in behavioral or geriatric neurology to join our multi-disciplinary team as part of the new Henry Ford Center for Cognitive Health.  The division of Behavioral Neurology consists of 3 fellowship-trained physicians in Neurology and Geriatric Psychiatry, an Advanced Practice Provider, a Social Worker, a Psychometrist as well as nursing and administrative support. The 3-year center development plan calls for adding 3 clinicians together with the development of a robust clinical trials enterprise across the spectrum of cognitive decline including normal individuals at high risk. Community outreach and support to underserved populations within our service area will also be a focus of the Center.

Our program has 30 years of experience in the medical management of Alzheimer’s and dementia, with a UCNS-approved behavioral neurology fellowship training program. Our busy clinical practice treats over 800 individual memory patients per year and includes the use of the latest tools to diagnose the stages of memory loss and dementia, including PET imaging, genetic testing, EEG, neuropsychology, and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. 

With over 50 neurologists total, Henry Ford’s Neuroscience Institute is one of the largest and most active in the Midwest, offering the most advanced neurologic medical and surgical therapies across all the major subspecialties, along with a robust residency and an array of fellowship offerings. As an academic program, we are active in clinical trials and neurology research.  In the last five years, the Department of Neurology has received over $47 Million in clinical and basic science research funding for 245 grants and contracts, averaging 3-7 NIH grants a year. All centers within the Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute conduct research, with a major focus on translational research to fast-track scientific discovery from bench to bedside.

Our Department of Neurology has a long tradition of excellence in stroke care.  We were the coordinating center for the groundbreaking prospective randomized 1995 NINDS tPA Stroke Trial that showed the efficacy and safety of tPA within 3 hours of stroke onset.  Our Stroke team provides integrated care at Henry Ford Hospital, a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center and AHA/ASA Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status.  Our HF West Bloomfield Hospital is a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center and has a Gold Elite status. Our three other hospitals are Primary Stroke Centers with HF Macomb and HF Allegiance hospitals having Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status and HF Wyandotte Hospital having Silver Plus status.

This primarily clinical position also offers the opportunity to teach medical students, residents and fellows, and protected time for clinical research. A tenure-track academic appointment is available for those who qualify, through Wayne State University.  In June 2020, Henry Ford Health System and Michigan State University have signed a letter of intent to make Henry Ford Hospital the primary academic affiliation of Michigan State University with a goal of reaching a definitive agreement by the end of 2020.
