Job Summary

This will be a business-to-business and business-to-customer sales representative responsible for sales of electric products within DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower Program. MIGreenPower is a simple and affordable program that empowers customers to attribute a greater percentage of their energy use to DTE Energy's newest wind and solar projects.

Incumbents will focus on attracting, retaining and expanding MIGreenPower sales within both new and existing accounts for DTE’s residential, commercial, and industrial customer classes. This position requires a high degree of interaction with internal DTE stakeholders, including consultants, as well as external stakeholders such as regional economic development organizations, municipalities, neighborhood associations, business owners, etc., to effectively sell the MIGreenPower products. Also, an important aspect of this job will be to effectively partner with the product development and marketing team within the MIGreenPower program to ensure alignment before the products are sold to our customers. Incumbents will have broad latitude (within their scope of responsibility) for independent action.

Key Accountabilities
  • Establishes and maintains account relationships with residential, commercial, and industrial customers to support renewable energy solutions and related sales initiatives
  • Executes sales processes for the renewable energy solutions pipeline, including coordinating with team members, performing sales activities, and handling direct sales to customers
  • Partners with product development and marketing teams to ensure alignment
  • Forecasts and achieves sales and revenue targets for an assigned book of business
  • Leads special assignments and projects, and partners with product development and marketing teams to ensure alignment with product development, pricing, and communication channels
  • Advises customers on renewable energy solutions and provides account management support
  • Develops and makes presentations to promote renewable energy solutions
  • Remains current on energy regulations and rates and provides consulting advice as needed
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:

  • High school diploma and 7 years of experience in sales or energy-related account management; or
  • Associate’s degree and 5 years of experience in sales or energy-related account management; or
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in sales or energy-related account management.
Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Degree in business, marketing, or an engineering-related technical field
  • Experience in energy/utility industry, including marketing and sales to residential, commercial, and industrial customers

Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and similar applications
  • Consulting and influencing skills with the ability to build relationships and influence parties, including engaging individuals to embrace changing expectations and initiatives
  • Understands utility distribution and transmission operations and related energy commodity issues
  • Understands renewable energy technologies and regulated utility financial concepts
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions
  • Ability to develop and coordinate cross-functional work groups and projects
  • Working knowledge of basic financial and economic analysis, and project and risk management
  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas and alternatives approaches
  • Effective communication and presentation skills at all levels
  • Flexibility and the ability to work with shifting priorities; embrace new and evolving responsibilities
  • Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges prevailing practices and approaches with reasonably sound alternatives
