POSITION SUMMARY

The Bindery Tech provides guidance to temporary employees and trains new employees assigned to their work center as needed. Processes and prepares bulk mailings for journal publications, periodicals, standards, PSVC, 1st class and others, for United States Postal Service in house.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Bindery

  • Obtains, reads, interprets and applies all information on all associated material such as the e-ticket, ship report, proofs, 1st Article and Quality manuals to assemble and package all customers product accurately and efficiently, daily.
  • Ensures that all products are staged at the machine timely and accurately, daily.
  • Knows and performs all procedures associated with preparing machine for set-up, daily.
  • Feeds pockets on Perfect Binder or Saddle Stitcher.
  • Performs scheduled weekly maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work center.
  • Communicates with previous and next shift any job information as needed.
  • Trains new employees assigned to their work center to ensure correct assembly and packaging, as needed.
  • Packs product at the end of the line.
  • Responsible for final inspection of product.

Mail

  • Sets up lines for processing mail using label I.D. form.
  • Sets up strapping and/or bundling equipment. Sorts domestic and foreign mail.
  • Performs quality checks to ensure that correct mail pieces are going on to the correct mail skid or correct mail bag for proper shipment (bulk, shipping or meter mail).
  • Hand feeds books into feeder pockets on various machines, inserts journals into envelopes and prepares for labeling and/or wrapping.
  • Performs maintenance on strapping equipment.
  • Updates bag-tagger software using disks.
  • Pulls shipping reports at the start of the job.
  • Assists operator with end of shift cleanup, including glue pot and light maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to use basic math and measuring skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks and ensure timely completion of assigned work.
  • Able to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
  • To be able to possess leadership skills when having helpers on machines.
  • Communicate effective and professionally (both verbally and in writing) with others inside and outside the organization.
  • Requires a very high level of attention to detail.
  • Standing on a regular basis for a minimum of 8 hours per shift.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekend schedules.
