Summary:

The rotating equipment engineer is responsible for the specification and design of compressor station rotating equipment by applying standard engineering principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. This person will help develop solutions to a variety of rotating equipment problems that develop during operation, maintenance, and repair, as well as perform root cause failure analysis in order to make recommendations that will help eliminate the causes of equipment unreliability. Additional responsibilities include applying engineering principles, theories, concepts, troubleshooting, scope development, and other techniques to provide solutions to for a variety of rotating equipment problems; participating in hazard and operability studies; working to resolve engineering action items; and performing field investigations at existing facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering

  • 2 years of experience in engineering or operation of a natural gas compressor station

  • Good technical writing skills and understanding of design drawing deliverables

  • Knowledge of gas conditioning systems and compressor station balance-of-plant equipment

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of work on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering workplace

  • Demonstrated project or task management skills

  • Natural gas compressor station plant engineering experience providing technical support for piping and rotating equipment

  • Knowledge of rotating plant equipment (reciprocating and centrifugal) and good knowledge of industry standards and recommended practices, materials, failure mechanisms, fabrication, and repair processes and procedures

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan, offices.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
