Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking a Senior Brownfield Specialist to join our trusted team of scientists, specialists, and program managers dedicated to connecting local governments, developers, and property owners with technical and funding support for brownfield redevelopment projects. In this role, expect to be immersed in complex and fulfilling projects with public and private clients across Michigan. Manage all stages of the process from initial contact to completion, including proposal, incentive research, community engagement, and oversight of redevelopment strategies.
Primary Functions
  • Manage brownfield redevelopment and economic development projects.
  • Develop strategies for effectively accessing, securing, and implementing U.S. EPA and state grants, brownfield tax increment financing (TIF), and other economic development incentives.
  • Create and oversee processes to manage brownfield and economic development incentives, including applications, budgets, tracking project costs, tax projections, tracking other project outcomes (cleanups, job creation, wages, etc.), reimbursement requests, annual reports, project completion reports, etc.
  • Articulate data-driven financial, economic, social, environmental, and community outcomes to diverse groups and clients.
  • Support local Brownfield Redevelopment Authorities and other government agencies through representation at community engagement meetings, participating in strategy and planning meetings, and managing annual reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with other Fishbeck project managers to pursue incentives for existing projects and market additional services.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Exposed to occasional lifting and carrying. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to sit, use a computer, and maneuver project sites at times. Capable of traveling to and maneuvering around project sites for attending client and project meetings and site observations. Able to use various technical equipment for communication and documentation. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities. Desired Education/Licensure
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Community Development, Business, or related field.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in brownfield redevelopment, economic development, planning, public administration, or environmental due diligence. Direct experience with local or county brownfield redevelopment authority preferred.
  • Strong communicator with proven experience coordinating with local government employees, consultants, and regulators.
  • Member of planning, brownfield, governmental, urban development, or other related associations. Interest in networking and fostering client relationships.
  • Organized, self-starter, and detail oriented.
  • Thorough working knowledge of grant funding and proposal processes.
