Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the registered nurse, will assist the health care team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Provides service support for assigned area(s) related to building services, patient transport and patient preparation. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. Reports to the Supervisor/Manager/Director.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. As directed, assists the RN in admitting, transferring and discharging of patients.
  2. Demonstrates sensitivity to patients' comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress. Answers patient questions, and explains procedures when performing.
  3. Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, comfort and transportation.
  4. Provides therapeutic patient care under the supervision and/or direction of the RN, to include the following duties: Obtains and reports vital signs, Measures, records, and reports output, including drainage canisters and bags, Assist in the application of restraints as directed by a registered nurse, Assist in positioning of patients assuring privacy and safety, Labels clothing, overnight bags, assistive devices, dentures, etc. and secures., Follows proper isolation techniques and procedures, Assist patient in preparation for surgery.
  5. Routine rounding on patients assigned when not directly engaged in patient care tasks.
  6. Maintains safe and clean patient room environment: Keeps room free from clutter, Cleans and stocks bedside tables, Maintains unit free from excess supplies and linen, Maintains cleanliness of other assigned areas.
  7. Makes necessary supply deliveries to unit and ancillary departments.
  8. Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed. Observes patient's condition during transport and notifies appropriate medical/nursing personnel if problems occur.
  9. Performs other related duties as required within scope of practice

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in surgical services, sterile processing, patient care environment or related departments with similar skill set required.
  • Medical Assistant and/or Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Current BLS-A Certification required or become BLS-A certified within one month of job start date.
