JOB DESCRIPTION:
                      
JOB TITLE:   Quality Engineer                                 

PLANT/DEPARTMENT:   Kingsford                         DIRECTED BY:   Quality Systems Manager

IMPORTANT WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:   Program Managers, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Customers

DIRECTS:  As assigned

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  Investigate, analyze, and resolve internal and customer quality issues by conducting audits, analyzing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects.

MAJOR DUTIES:
 
  1. Performs champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with the plants and customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances.
  2. Initiates, tracks, and works with appropriate departments to timely resolve PCARs.
  3. Supports delivery, warranty, and quality improvement actions to achieve the highest quality and customer satisfaction levels.
  4. Identifies unique contract quality requirements and assure they are flowed down to supply chain and manufacturing.
  5. Conducts internal audits to identify and correct procedural, product, or process deficiencies.
  6. Identifies and implements continuous improvement projects.
  7. Drives a “Zero Defect” mentality within the organization.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED/SPECIAL NOTES:
  • 3 to 5 years in a manufacturing (weld/machining) environment
  • Familiarity with a formal Quality Management System
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works well with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to function independently of direct supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • ISO lead auditor certified or ability to obtain lead auditor qualification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:     

Job often requires long hours of sitting/computer usage.
