Job Description Summary
|
Engineering staff position to support the activities of MSE in the areas of materials manufacturing, materials production, teaching of material manufacturing labs to MSE, ME, and MET students, and develop and execute activities for externally sponsored MSE/IMP research.
|
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
|
- Support MSE and IMP research projects, users, and infrastructure.
a. Advance current external research and help to increase external research activity in MSE. b. Collaborate with faculty and research to grow the use of the facility.
- Supporting laboratory instruction in MSE.
- Commitment to continuous learning and improvement and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
|
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
|
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
|
- Experience manufacturing materials in an industrial or academic environment, including metal casting and composite material manufacturing.
|
Desirable Education and/or Experience
|
- Ability to plan and execute research and development pilot-scale manufacturing set-up and materials production.
- Organizational skills to set-up and maintain high-tech materials research labs.
- Interest and aptitude for teaching materials manufacturing labs.
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
|
- Demonstrated ability to design, manufacture, and pilot materials production equipment for pilot-scale materials production.
a. CAD, FEA analysis, and design optimization b. Material selection and with working with machinists and suppliers c. Assembly and prove-out of new material production equipment
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
- Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

- Experience working in or managing a complex, multi-user manufacturing facilities.

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
|
