International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) has an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Specialist in Midland, Michigan. This role is part of the Pharma Solutions business unit of International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF). The Analytical Specialist role supports production and research on existing and new pharmaceutical excipients.

This role provides analytical technical expertise, ensures compliance with regulations, and improves analytical system performance and reliability. We are looking for an Analytical Chemist, who will develop and implement validated test methods and support the performance of complex analyses in the quality control laboratories. In this role, close cooperation within the Polymer Characterization group and across departments with research and development, quality assurance, and production is essential.

The Pharma Solutions labs use techniques such as wet chemical analysis, viscosity, chromatographic methods, FTIR and XRF

Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical and process chemistry expertise to resolve process, product, and analytical problems
  • Provide the analytical technical link to the ETHOCEL and POLYOX plants
  • Screen complicated service requests for value and alignment with goals
  • Route analytical requests to the appropriate service provider
  • Perform complex analyses and interpret and report analytical data
  • Provide expertise for troubleshooting and guidance for problem solving
  • Implement laboratory improvements
  • Validate methods
  • Anticipate analytical and product quality problems and address proactively
  • Monitor and improve analytical system performance and capability
  • Continuously improve and leverage analytical best practices
  • Lead root cause investigations related to analytical problems
  • Train others on analytical systems and technology
  • Network with other technical personnel to stay current with analytical technologies and leverage technical solutions

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related field.
  • Proven project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytical techniques, capabilities, and statistics are required.
  • Excellent documentation (written), oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and multi-task in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment.
  • Preferred 5-10 years' experience in analytical chemistry.
  • Preferred experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
