Cinematic Environment Artist - Unreal Engine

Job Description

Torch Technologies, a 100% Employee-owned company, is seeking a cinematic environment artist who is experienced and passionate in environment art and real-time VFX and cinematics.Torch is seeking a candidate who is innovative, collaborative, and experienced in working in an iterative design process. Candidate must be receptive to regular feedback and must work well with a multidisciplinary team.Candidate will workdirectly with customerssupportingthe Ground Vehicle System Center (GVSC).Candidate will develop environments for vehicle visualization tools and other purposes for use in Unreal Engine. Candidate will be able to regularly work with high end mixed reality equipment such as the Varjo XR3 and the Hololens 2. Broader experience with and knowledge of the entire 3D art pipeline is a plus. Candidate must be able to work in person daily at the Torch Michigan office located in Sterling Heights, MI. Candidate should be trustworthy, dependable, and self-motivated, eager to overcome challenges and solve problems.Previous experience working within a DoD environment is a plus, but not required.

Job Requirements

Qualified candidates will have direct experience with the following:

  • Knowledge and experience with environment creation pipeline in production
  • Demonstration of strong design fundamentals, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to create performant and visually appealing environments
  • A strong portfolio of work that showcases 3D design fundamentals and clear demonstrations of the design process including rapid iteration, grayboxing, and modular assemblies; candidates without portfolios will not be considered
  • Experience with Unreal Engine is required
  • Experience with Blender, Houdini, Maya, or 3ds Max
  • Ability to take direction and work within an iterative and collaborative design process
  • Proven experience working in a production environment
  • Enthusiasm for developing and mentoring other artists

Qualified candidates will have an interest or experience in one of the following areas:

  • Broader 3D generalist skillsets such as lighting, rigging, and material authoring
  • Familiarity or experience with Houdini
  • Familiarity or experience with procedural environment generation
  • Experience creating content for real time interactive experiences as well as experience creating real time cinematics for video experiences in Unreal Engine
  • Experience with Substance Painter and Designer
  • 2D Concepting skills

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BA in Entertainment Arts, Game Art, 3D Animation, or other relevant artistic education with 5-8 years of experience.
  • Preference given to applicants with a history of pursuing continuing education
