Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a CAD/CAE Engineer in Novi, Michigan.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering studies on automotive vehicle structure designs and analysis to improve performance and/or reduce weight of the desired system. Engineering studies would be conducted utilizing a vast suite of CAE tools for linear static, Non-linear static, dynamic and fatigue.
  • Conduct optimization studies utilizing linear optimization and multiple disciplinary optimization.
  • Evaluate Durability, NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), and Crash results and suggest design improvements based on the results to improve the final product. Innovative design of steel solutions to enhance performance, safety, and protection of electrical vehicles utilizing commercial CAD software.
  • Work closely with customers to identify joint projects utilizing steel to improve performance and or light weighing of the BIW.
  • Engage in project management from start to finish, documenting results and presenting proposals to customers.
  • Manage internal projects to develop product applications for future grades of steel under development.
  • Construct material card with GISSMO model for structure analysis.
  • Physical testing experience to examine cracking and strain measurement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Validation Engineer, CAE/CAD Engineer, or related including 3 years of experience with: steel applications.
  • 3 years of experience Automotive vehicle structure design and analysis.
  • 3 years of experience with crash, durability and NVH simulations.
  • 3 years of experience with NASTRAN, Abaqus, HyperMesh, LS-DYNA, Optistruct, and nCode as well as active use of NX and CATIA.
  • 3 years of experience with structural optimizations, including shape, topology, and topography optimizations.
  • 3 years of experience with hands-on physical testing experience to examine cracking and strain measurement.
