Position Summary:
This role is responsible for assisting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team with the budget process, financial forecasting, business segment reporting, capital planning, competitive intelligence, and other finance initiatives. This position will play a key role in assisting the FP&A team with strategic and tactical activities of the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:
Job Function 1: Budget and Forecasting - 40%

  • Support the annual budgeting process, collaborating with leaders and consolidating the proposed budgets of various departments.
  • Support the development of allocation models to improve budgeting and business analysis.
  • Ensure budgeting and forecasting is aligned with business and strategic planning.

Job Function 2: Business/Market Segment Analysis and Reporting - 40%

  • Support the development of reports, models, and other financial analytic tools to measure, forecast and analyze financial performance and enhance budget versus actual reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including dashboards, trends and other financial reports for business leaders highlighting and explaining variances to budget.
  • Collaborate with Finance team on business unit profitability analysis, including segment, geographic, branch and business units.
  • Assist with preparation of various management and board presentations.
  • Assist in the creation and review of various external reports.

Job Function 3: Competitive Intelligence - 10%

  • Utilize resources such as S&P Global / SNL and Bloomberg to analyze how Alerus' financial performance compares to peers.
  • Maintain and enhance tracking tools to measure relative financial performance.
  • Monitor industry data to understand how Alerus is growing relative to the macro environment.

Job Function 4: Alerus/Department Support and Teamwork - 10%

  • Ensures successful implementation and wide-spread use of the AXIOM reporting system.
  • Works with AXIOM product owner on the various business segments on special financial related projects.
  • Support new business initiatives as needed.

Position Requirements:
Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Financial Services industry experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Proficient with all Microsoft products including Excel, Access, Word, and Power Point.

  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Motivated self-starter and multitasker.

  • Ability to work well with professionals at all levels of the organization.

  • Adaptable to changing environment and time pressures.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Demands - Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.

  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.

  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.

  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
