Summary

The Customs Manager oversees and manages all customs-related activities within the transportation and logistics industry. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with customs regulations, optimizing customs processes, and providing guidance to the customs team. The Customs Manager plays a critical role in maintaining efficient customs operations and minimizing risks associated with international trade.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement customs strategies and procedures to ensure compliance with customs regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the customs team in handling customs documentation and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure timely and accurate submission of customs documents, including import and export declarations.
  • Stay updated with changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and industry practices.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues and inquiries.
  • Conduct customs audits and compliance reviews to assess adherence to regulations and internal procedures.
  • Optimize customs processes to enhance efficiency and minimize customs clearance delays.
  • Manage relationships with customs authorities and stay informed about their requirements and expectations.
  • Implement measures to mitigate customs-related risks and ensure accurate customs valuation and classification.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to the customs team to enhance their knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and compliance with customs requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of customs compliance programs and policies.

Educational background / Work experience

  • Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs operations, including management responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, procedures, and documentation.
  • Experience in managing customs compliance and optimizing customs processes.

Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of customs regulations, import/export requirements, and international trade practices.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with customs authorities and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in customs valuation and classification methodologies.
  • Knowledge of customs automation systems and software.
  • Familiarity with customs audits and compliance assessments.
  • Understanding of supply chain management principles.

Supervisory Responsibilities (if any)

  • Manage and supervise the customs team, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in customs compliance or a related field.
  • Previous experience in the transportation and logistics industry.
  • Familiarity with trade agreements and preferential trade programs.
  • Experience in implementing customs automation and digitization initiatives.

Language skills

  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Computer Literacy

  • Proficient in using customs management software and tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and technology platforms used in customs operations and management.

For this position, the expected base pay is: $78,500- $117,500 / Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
